2012 Hoops Recruiting Update

It appears that UGA is setting their sights on the remaining "big 3" for the 2012 class (Power forwards Shaq Goodwin, Robert Carter, and Tony Parker). With Charles Mann, Kenny Gaines, and Brandon Morris already committed, I can't see the Dawgs taking anyone other than the three in-state guys listed above. If -- somehow -- they could get two of these guys, I think we would take them (we don't have enough room for all three, and technically, we may only have room for one).

Anyway, here is an update on where UGA's stands with these three guys:
  1. Shaq Goodwin -- The state's top player has recently added Arizona to his "final five" list (and subsequently dropped Alabama). Although he has met with coaches from UGA, UCLA, and Memphis recently, he plans on taking official visits to all five schools. The addition of Arizona could be temporary however, as they only have one more spot available in the 2012 class, and are also waiting on a possible commitment from 5-star center Kaleb Tarczewski. According to Goodwin, he still plans on playing football as well as hoops.
  2. Robert Carter -- His list of schools is all over the map (literally): Kentucky, Georgia, Rhode Island, FSU, GA Tech, and Maryland. Although he lists Kentucky as a school of interest, it is unclear as to whether or not the Wildcats have even given him an offer. Also to note is the fact that Carter is playing his senior season at Shiloh High School in Gwinnett County after transferring from Thomasville. He is a nationally ranked top 50 player, so he would be a great get. For now, I don't think the Dawgs are at the top of his list (but not out of it either).
  3. Tony Parker -- I recently thought the Dawgs were completely out of the picture for Parker, then it was annoucned that he would be taking a visit to Athens at some point. It's going to be tough for the Dawgs, as he is being recruited hard by Duke, UCLA, and Ohio State. The good news is his teammate, Brandon Morris, recently committed to the Dawgs, so maybe that will change our position.
I don't see any of these guys committing in the near future, so this may drag out a litter more than I want. Clearly, IF we are to get one of these guys, Shaq Goodwin is the MOST likely candidate. But I can assure you we are still recruiting all three very hard.
