Tweet O' The Day: Marcus Thornton Weighs-In on Newest Commit

Marcus Thornton is poised to have a breakout season this year for the hoops squad. From what I've heard from folks around the program, look for a breakout season from him, Donte Williams, and wait for  Iit... John Florveus. From what I've gathered on Florveus, the lesser-known of the three 2011 big men that Fox signed, he's really impressing the staff and is the favorite to win the starting center job this season.

Ok, so now that I've fully debriefed you on some other whispers I've heard out of the basketball program, let's get down to the real reason for the article.

Best I can tell, Thornton and Kenny Gaines have a longstanding relationship. I would fathom that this arose from Thornton's days playing for the Georgia Stars, just the same as Kenny does currently. I guess that probably helped at least a little in adding Gaines' name to the commitment list. Anyway, Marcus seemed to be a really big fan of the commitment yesterday.

Gaines is a teammate of one of the Dawgs' other three remaining BIG targets in G/F Marcus Hunt. Hunt seems to be favoring some combo of Florida and Bama at present, but the Dawgs are certainly a major player here, especially now that his buddy Gaines will be in his ear a little. The other two, are G/F Brandon Morris and PF Shaq Goodwin. Fox recently told Morris that he is the No. 1 target at his position. Goodwin is scheduled to be at UCLA today with a few other high profile 2012 guys (Shabazz Muhammad, Kyle Anderson Jr., and UCLA commit Jordan Adams).

This is a HUGE pickup for what is looking like an absolutely loaded Dawgs backcourt in 2012.

  1. Look for Brandon morris to be the dawgs next commitment. He is great friends with both donte williams and charles mann and on top of that,Mark Fox has been really on him lately.I knew Mark Fox could recruit! At least a little. Now if somehow we can get Shaq to jump on board and play basketball ONLY to go along with Morris and the other two,now that would be a great class to build on for the future.Go Dawgs!
