Alumni Spotlight: Knowshon Rising

Entering his third year with the Denver Broncos, Knowshon Moreno is still looking to replicate the kind of success he achieved at the collegiate level. Taken with the 12th overall pick in the 2009 draft, Moreno entered his professional career with high expectations. Unfortunately his on-field production has been slowed by both Josh McDaniels' pass happy offense in year 2 and a series of leg injuries. 2011, however, is shaping up as a season of change for Moreno. John Fox has replaced McDaniels as head coach, bringing with him an offense that leans heavy on the run game. DeAngelo Williams enjoyed consecutive 1000 yard seasons under Fox before an injury cost him most of last year. My only concern is that Fox does have a penchant of splitting carries and the Broncos did sign veteran Willis McGahee. McGahee is running on retreaded tires though, and more than likely will be used mostly in goaline situations. Gone is Correll Buckhalter, who took away many 3rd down reps from a season ago.

Another reason for optimism in 2011 is Knowshon’s new found approach to off-season strength and conditioning. Working out at the CrossFit Verve gym in North Denver, Moreno has adopted a workout regimen consisting of massive amounts high intensity low weight reps, pull-ups, and rope work. According to the Denver Post, Moreno reported to camp noticeably leaner, having dropped from 215 to 200 pounds, improving his quickness and speed to the edge. Reportedly he is also much stronger in his back, gluts, and hamstrings, both of which were injured during the 2010 campaign.

He's also changed his diet to include: raw golden eagle eggs for breakfast, grilled 16 penny nails and lemon peppered gunpowder for lunch, followed by ground linebacker bones for supper. Kidding aside, so far Knowshon has shown that his extra work is paying off this preseason, as he has carried the ball 10 times for 51 yards and caught 3 passes for 29 yards. Big things lie ahead for Knowshon Moreno and this season could very well be his coming out party.

Dawgtooth’s prediction: ATT: 295 YDS: 1298 AVG: 4.4 TD 9 REC: 35 YDS: 345 AVG: 9.85 TD: 3 Optimistic I know, but I like those numbers.
Looks leaner to me. Must be the eagle eggs
