54 Days: 54 By The Numbers

And you're invited...

It's 54 days until kickoff with Boise in the Dome. Because today is yet another one of those days that we don't have a player to roll with, I though I'd see how many instances of 54 I could find in last years stats. Just so you know, there will be a fair amount of stretching here, as it's really not easy to find random numbers within the stats of a single team from a single year. Here goes anyway.
  • Accumulated 68 penalties for 545 yards last season.
  • Allowed 1309 kickoff return yards in 67 attempts, for a 19.54 yard average.
  • If you're rounding up to whole numbers, which I do of course, the Dawgs converted a 4th down 54% of the time. (Actually 53.33, but we can say 54, can't we?)
  • 54 was the number of yards that former Dawg tailback, Caleb King, averaged per game last season. Curiously, his average was 5.4 yards per carry.
  • Is ten less than the total number of carries that Carlton Thomas, our leading returning rusher, had last season.
  • 154.48: Aaron's quarterback rating last season.
  • Is one more (53) than the number of passes that our leading two receiving threats caught last year in Orson and Tavarres.
  • Durham averaged 54.9 yards receiving last season. That should be very tough to replace.
That's pretty much all I can come up with at this point. Stats were provided by cfbstats.com. Sorry for the abbreviated posts the last few days on the countdown. We'll really take it up a notch come tomorrow.
