Hoops Recruiting Update: Atlanta SG Nears Decision

I thought I'd pass along a little quick summary of the happenings on the prep basketball recruiting front of late. With a somewhat thin guard corps after the graduation of Dustin Ware and Gerald Robinson this year, it looks like the Dawgs will look to add at least 2, if not 3, to their roster at those positions. We'll only have Brantley and Vince Williams left after this season (with Caldwell-Pope coming in), so it's certainly a position of need.

It looks like the front-runners to land those spots are Milton's Charles Mann, Birmingham's DeOndre Haynes, and Whitefield Academy's Kenny Gaines. I haven't heard a heck of a lot out of the first two, other than they're very high on the Dawgs (Surprised? Me too. Really can't figure out our hoops recruiting struggles), but Gaines seems to be nearing a decision.

He announced on twitter (@KennyGaines23) that he had come to a decision, but quickly nixed the notion that he'd be deciding very soon. After doing some nosing around, it looks like he has alread made up his mind and most likely WILL be announcing very soon. He's buddies with Marcus Thornton, Gerald Robinson, and Dustin Ware and was blown away by his May visit to Athens, so you really have to like our chances here. If I'm not mistaken, he was in Columbia last week for a team camp, so the Cocks at least have a chance as well.

I'd say his top group includes (in order) UGA, Clemson (teammate Jaron Blossomgame is a CU commit), Tech, Tennessee, and South Carolina. That's just an educated guess, but like I said, the Dawgs look to be in pretty good shape with the four-star Mableton SG.

Take a look at some video here:
