Diamond Dawgs STILL ALIVE!

One day after getting smacked around by Vandy in the SEC Tournament, UGA kept their postseason hopes alive by hanging on against Auburn for 3-2 win. The game was highlighted by sophomore, Alex Wood, pitching a complete game against the Tigers -- this is NOT an easy thing to do in a college baseball game. This is big for two reasons:
  1. The obvious one -- the season is still alive
  2. It saves the bullpen for the rest of the SEC Tourney games (if we make it far enough, that is)
UGA will now play top-seeded South Carolina in the loser's bracket, with the winner playing Florida on Saturday. Again, we need two more victories to have a chance at postseason play, and it won't be easy with South Carolina being one of the top teams in the country (and defending national champs).

Here is a pretty good quote from Perno after the game, talking about what he told the team today in regards to the Vandy game yesterday (via UGASports.com):

"What I said to the team after that and today wasn't PG-rated," Perno added. "I told them flat out that you don't want to be remembered as the sympathy team; the team that played a tough schedule and faced adversity. You want to be respected, and we didn't play like that on Wednesday. I was proud of how they came out today and played closer to our identity."
