Tech Loses Hoops Recruit to...the Philippines?

One must really have a luke-warm opinion of Georgia Tech and/or new head coach Brian Gregory if he is settling for a college in the Philippines. Although this seems like a completely random statement, amazingly, this is actually happening to the Jackets this coming fall. According to the AJC , Brian Gregory has said that 3-star Shooting guard, Bobby Parks Jr., will not likely be playing for the Georgia Tech this fall. Here is the actual quote:

“I do not foresee [Parks] coming to school at Georgia Tech next year.”

Obviously -- as a UGA fan (which is amazing to some who read this blog) -- I find this piece of information utterly amusing. Just for some background, Parks' parents both live in the Philippines because his mother is Filipino. His father, Bobby Parks Sr., was a former draft pick of the Atlanta Hawks. In fairness to Gregory, Parks was a Hewitt signee so it's not like he completely bailed on him.

What this also means is that Tech now has only one commitment/signee for their 2011 class, and more importantly, has opened to door WIDE open for UGA in 2012. It is apparent that Gregory is not wooing the recruits yet (knocking on wood), which was one of the fears in the Tech community (all 16 of them) when he was initially hired.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, 2012 could be Mark Fox's version of Richt's 2011 football "dream team" -- and firmly put UGA hoops on the map.
