UGA vs. Alabama Preview

Althought this post will be very irrelevant in about four hours, I still felt like a hoops post was very necessary. And today, we face what is probably our biggest game of the year. Or, as a talking head ESPN analyst might put it: "I'm not so sure this isn't Georgia's biggest game of the year in quite some time". So as you can see, it's big.

As of this morning, our bracket situation is a little dicey. Joe Lunardi as ESPN still has us as a "last four in" in his bracket (which means playing in Dayton on Tuesday or Wednesday in that new stupid play-in game). Bracketology101 has us a little safer, as an 11-seed but better than "last four in". Regardless, people are saying -- whether it is true or not -- that this UGA/Bama game is essentially its own play-in game. I think it definitely is for Bama, but I still think we could sneak in with a loss today.

And while I'm at it, here are the teams we need to root against today (other bubble teams):
  1. Clemson
  2. Virginia Tech
  3. Michigan State
  4. Boston College
  5. Colorado
  6. Michigan
As for Alabama, well...we just played them, we lost, and it sucked. Trey was definitely hobbled and quite frankly nobody played particularly well for us. Alabama does play great defense, but offensively that are a bit disjointed at times (see the second half of their Florida game). Their top players are both athletic forwards (Tony Mitchell and LaMychal Green) and if that Chavez Davis guy makes five threes again, I might shoot the TV.

Anyway, away from their home court, Alabama has been much more beatable. And given the stakes today, the intensity level should be high, as this should play like an NCAA tournament game...let's hope we survive and advance.

  1. FYI, Clemson and BC actually play each other today so...maybe the loser will be squeezed out.
