Bye-Bye Ron Franklin

Apparently, long-time ESPN play-by-play man Ron Franklin decided that Jeannine Edwards was NOT qualified to speak about fellow ESPN announcer Rod Gilmore's wife being elected mayor of Alemada (in California). Thus he was let go by the company. To summarize briefly, in preparation for the Chick-Fil-A Bowl on Dec. 31, ESPN had a production meeting in which Franklin, alongside Ed Cunningham, Rod Gilmore, Jeannine Edwards, and others, were discussing the accounts of Gilmore's wife being elected mayor. Edwards tried to state her opinion on the matter and Franklin...well...told her to shut it. Actually it was a bit more harsh than that, and the entire account, first reported by "SportsbyBrooks", can be seen HERE).

This ends a long run for Franklin at ESPN which started in 1987. Personally, I remember growing up and watching Franklin, alongside Mike Gottfried, announce the Primetime ESPN college football game of the week (which was usually an SEC game).
