Some Tuesday Quick Hitters

Here are some current happenings in the college sports world (thought this would make more sense than writing an entire article on each one)
  • Joe Paterno says he wants to coach FIVE MORE YEARS! My response: ???????? I thought he quit "coaching" about ten years ago...it's arguable whether he even has a pulse anymore.
  • Florida still hasn't named either of its coordinator positions, though Kirby Smart has been offered the DC job but is mum on his decision. Major Applewhite will apparently NOT go to UF, after reportedly being considered.
  • San Diego State enters the top ten in the college basketball coaches poll. I don't really know what to make of this but the fact that Steve Fisher is their coach (former Michigan Fab-Five coach) might tell us something. There are now three Mountain West conference teams in the top 25 with BYU #18 and UNLV #22.
  • Since Gus Malzahn has spurned the Commodores, Maryland offensive coordinator James Franklin has apparently agreed to become Vanderbilt's new head coach. This makes yet another "coach in waiting" who apparently...didn't want to wait. And it would make the first African-American SEC coach since Sly Croom....in other words it makes the second African-American SEC coach ever (edit: sorry, forgot about Joker at UK. Also the only "coach in waiting" that actually lived up to the billing).
  • Will Muschamp will reportedly make 2.7 million a year for five years at Florida.
  • Houston has asked the NCAA for a sixth year for star QB Case Keenum, who got injured during senior year last year.
As for Dawg news, as expected, it appears A.J. will indeed forgo his senior season. But he's not the only one as Justin Houston, Cordy Glenn, Brandon Boykin, Blair Walsh, and....wait on it...Trinton Sturdivant are also considering going pro. Why, in the name of all things holy, someone would draft an offensive lineman with TWO ACL tears is beyond me. Maybe he just wanted to meet Rich McKay.

There is not a lot of recent news regarding recruiting. And the basketball team does not play again until this Saturday, so we'll keep you updated of something awesome happens.

  1. I think you may have overlooked UK coach Joker Phillips, who is also black.

  2. Ah yes. He was also a "coach in waiting". Sorry for the error.

  3. Plus Jimbo Fisher says that coach in waiting thing works best when you forcefully push out the legend in front of you. Of course that requires the football team to suck for 10 years and the AD to finally shoot that old horse dead.
