Mullen Gettin' Paid, Son

Word out of Starkville is that Danny-boy just inked for himself a nice new pay raise. Mullen had originally agreed to be paid $1.2 million annually, but just signed an extension for a hefty $10.6 million over the next four years. That's a staggering $2.65 million over those four years- good for a spot right behind Mark Richt ($2.9M) and Bobby Petrino ($2.7M).

This looks to me like a preemptive strike on the part of MSU. Perhaps it wasn't though and there was more going on behind the scenes with UF than we knew and Mullen used the Florida gig as leverage for a pay raise. It wouldn't be the first time that has happened. No matter what the case, I think this is a bit premature on their part. That's a whole lot of cash to be throwing around for a guy who has a 13-11 career record on his resume. If he's good enough to warrant that amount of cash, are you foolish enough to believe that he'll stay in Starkville when thicker pockets and richer tradition comes knocking?

No chance.
