Surprise! QB Controversy in Cock-town

As usual, Darth Visor has a bit of a quarterback controversy on his hands. If this were any other team this late in camp, cue DEFCON-IV, season fail, pandemic level threat to this season's success. Instead, it's business as usual in Crackolina.

True freshman Connor Shaw, who is a local product, has gotten the attention of Spurrier in the two scrimmages the Cocks have held thus far. (Per Joe Person at The State)

“Well, like I said, Connor has outplayed him in the scrimmages,” he said. “We’ll see how it goes the next two weeks. Stephen may play the best. So we’ll see how it goes.”

If you'll recall in the spring, CSS called out Garcia on multiple occasions. With Garcia's latest underperformance, I think he may be in some trouble. I know Spurrier loves playing games, but Shaw's stat line (5-8/111/1/0) stands for itself.

Garcia has been inconsistent at best, with his career performance coming last year against you-know-who (Once again we make a zero look like a hero and a Carolina TE look like Antonio Gates). It doesn't help that he is a Cock and complete and total goon. I'm all for him riding the pine but, despite his inconsistency, I see OBC giving him the starting nod come game time.

Who really knows. If Shaw does end up starting, I like our chances a whole lot better in the 7th level of Hell that is Columbia. Honestly though, it doesn't matter who starts, they still will end up at about 8-5 after all is said and done. They're the Gamecocks for Pete's sake.
