A Dawg-Like Preview: Defensive Line

This is probably the most depleted unit on Georgia's team. With the loss of Jeff Owens, Geno Atkins, Kade Weston, and Rod Battle (who missed most of last year anyway) the Dawgs have to replace almost 100 tackles and three significant hole cloggers. This does not mean that the cupboard is completely bare, but depth could certainly be an issue down the road. The good news? Since the Dawgs have switched to the 3-4, Justin Houston and Cornelius Washington will play Outside Linebacker, so they technically only start three defensive linemen. Here is the projected depth chart for the D-Line:

DE Demarcus Dobbs SR. 30 tackles/4.5 sacks last year
NOSE DeAngelo Tyson JR 12 tackles last year
DE Abry Jones So. 8 tackles/1 sack last year

As you can see, with the exception of Dobbs -- there is a just a little inexperience problem there...and here are the backups:

DE Brandon Wood SR 14 tackles last year
NOSE Justin (Bean) Anderson JR-- played O-Line last year. Also, Kwame Geathers literally both our backup nosemen have zero experience. This is awesome.
DE Kiante Tripp SR-- switched positions so many times I can't keep track. Hasn't done anything significant defensively though. Also, Garrison Smith FR.

So, needless to say we do not need any injuries to our D-Line. I do think in the 3-4 defense they will have a little more protection/help since there are two inside linebackers instead of just one guy in the middle. The Defensive Ends will also get help in the pass rush department from the aforementioned outside linebackers (Houston, C. Washington), so hopefully the guys in the trenches can hold their own and stay healthy.
